PHOTOVILLE NY 2014
New York City, September 18-28th
Last year, the Instagram community team created a print exhibition which included many of the Instagram’s community members who have been featured on their account or blog by 2014. Through that current year, Instagram has promoted many different Weekend Hashtag Projects. Every weekend Instagram introduces to the public a new project that involves sharing photographs with an specific theme by a proper hashtag.
The Following Projects Rules:
“Please only add the hashtag to photos and videos taken over this weekend and only submit your own photographs or videos to the project. Any image taken then tagged over the weekend is eligible to be featured right here Monday morning!”
On the first week of June, Instagram introduced the Weekend Hashtag Project (WHP) called Game On • #WHPGameOn, to celebrate beginning of the 2014 Brazil FIFA World Cup that had just started back then. The goal on that weekend was to cheer on your country with creative photos and videos showing how you were getting involved.
As I’m a Brazilian living in Rio, a soccer fanatic, and having the World Cup happening here at my country, I felt the necessity to share my feelings about it. With the WHP, I saw the opportunity to submit a photo, entitled The Beautiful Game, that could illustrate all the sensations that soccer brings to the people here in Brazil, that live for it, playing it everywhere possible.
Always on the Mondays, right after the WHP, Instagram selects the best pictures with the hashtag and shares them. Surprisingly, that picture that i’ve shared had been highlighted on that unique day, a June 16th that changed my life and I’ll never forget.
After that, on August The Instagram community team made contact, asking me the possibility of including my work at the Photoville Exhibition which happened in New York City from September 18th to 28th, located at the Brooklyn Bridge Park - Pier 5. “Here in the World: Voices of the Instagram Community” was one of the 52 Container Exhibitions, which was displayed inside pictures from 70 different artists from the Instagram community.
The container exhibitions, plus Outdoors Instalations, Artist Talks & Panel Discussions, Hands-On Workshops and Night Time Events made the exhibit a success. It was an honor for me, having that same picture being selected and exposed a recognition of my photographic work. People contacting me, giving me their feedback and sending pictures of my photo exposed, it was so remarkable. Luckily this wasn’t all of it.
Recently, on the last weeks of December 2014, Instagram was looking back at some inspiring stories from last year from around the community. Specifically on December 28th, 2014, they featured my work, with the same picture which was featured on June 16, and exposed on Photoville. 2014 really was an incredible year for my development with photography and concluding with my work recognized. I hope 2015 will be even better with awesome new surprises.
